Self-Hosted Infrastructure Lab

A self-hosted home server infrastructure developed since 2018, now running on a dedicated desktop server. The platform is built on Proxmox VE, an open-source virtualization environment that combines virtual machines and Linux containers on a single system.

Architecture

The setup uses a mix of virtual machines and LXC containers to balance isolation, performance, and maintainability. A Home Assistant VM handles home automation, while an Alpine Linux VM runs Docker-based services and dedicated LXC containers host lightweight or specialized workloads.

Home Automation

Home Assistant integrates several connected devices, including a robot cleaner, smart outlets, smart buttons, and a camera system using Frigate for object detection and automation workflows. This setup supports practical smart home orchestration built on self-hosted infrastructure.

Services Deployed

Core hosted services include Pi-hole, Jellyfin, Navidrome, Tdarr, Caddy, Radicale, Paperless, ntfy, Ollama, and a dedicated MusicBrainz database used for the rec_o project. Additional applications include Immich, Audiobookshelf, Mealie, Syncthing, Homarr, SiYuan, Wallos, Wizarr, Endurain, Multi-Scrobbler, OPODSync, and Yamtrack Enhanced.

Ongoing Development

The platform is continuously evolving through regular improvements, new services, and deeper integrations. The project highlights hands-on experience with virtualization, containerization, self-hosting, service orchestration, and iterative infrastructure design.
